An Unofficial NHF Gear Guide#

A common question for new students at Niagara Historical Fencing is where to find good quality fencing gear. The purpose of this guide is to offer some NHF-specific answers since preference, tournament legality, and overall “meta” vary by region.

The recommendations also vary according to you. The guide calls attention to equipment that is favoured or disallowed by local tournament organizers in case attending tournaments is something you want to do. Our club has good turnouts at events, but we’re not a tournament-oriented club, so if you see something in this guide that you like that isn’t tournament legal, that’s ok if the vibe you’re looking for is more “social club with swords.”

Although this guide can be read in almost any order, starting with the overview sections will answer questions like “what does 800N mean?” when you begin shopping for a jacket.
