Starter Kits#

It sure looks like there are a lot of decisions to make. What if you could buy most of your gear all in one go?

Starter kits are an easy way to get (almost) fully geared. Superior Fencing kits are reasonably priced and include almost everything you need. Note that these kits do not include masks (though many do include mask overlays) and not all kits include gloves or mitts.

Starter kits are usually made-to-order, with production and shipping taking anywhere between 3-6 months.

Fit#

Something of a recurring theme with Superior Fencing jackets and pants is that the fit is not great. Most NHF students that have bought these kits spend most of their time plotting to replace them. While not a universal experience, it’s common enough to carry a warning label. Supfen kits are a quick and inexpensive way to get geared up quickly, but if rock-bottom cost is not your primary motivator, you will be better served by another brand like SPES.

If you do opt for one of these kits, err on the side of a relaxed fit when you measure yourself. A slightly loose jacket will still let you move, whereas a tight jacket that prevents you from getting one or both arms above your head will prevent you from executing some of the most important guards in our systems.
